My neighbors have gorgeous, tall flowers around the base of their mailbox. They’re eye-catching and great for their curb appeal.
Are you looking to do something similar around your home? Do you need to know your options for tall flowers that will grab attention?
If so, you’re in the right location. I’ve created a list of tall flower options that are sure to add charm around your home.
Here are the flowers which deserve your consideration:
1. Hardy Hibiscus
Hardy hibiscus flowers produce large blooms of various shades. These flowers are hardy in planting zones five through nine.
Also, they reach heights up to four feet. You should expect hardy hibiscus plants to do well in areas with full to partial sunlight and adequately draining soil.
2. Delphinium
Delphinium plants produce bushy, green foliage and long stems which fill with blue or purple flowers all along the stems. These flowers need staking as they can reach heights up to six feet tall.
Plus, delphinium is a perennial flower, so be sure to plant in an area that won’t be disturbed during the dormant season. Ensure you supply delphinium plants with ample sunlight, well-draining soil, and protection from hard rains and high winds.
3. Boltonia
Boltonia goes by various names including chamomile and false aster. No matter what you call it, these are perennial flowers that reach heights around five to six feet.
If you’re unfamiliar with boltonia, they’re beautiful white flowers with yellow centers and are hardy in planting zones four through nine. They grow best in areas with well-draining soil and full sunlight.
4. Cosmos
Cosmos create traditional, colorful blooms that are cup-shaped with bright yellow centers. They’re hardy in planting zones two through eleven and are great for warm climates that are also dry.
Keep in mind, cosmos are known for being drought-tolerant plants and can reach heights up to five feet depending upon the variety. Plant cosmos in a growing location with full to partial sunlight and light, well-draining soil.
5. Oriental Lily
Do you enjoy the unique shape and colors of lilies? If so, you’ll love this tall option. Oriental lilies are beautiful perennial flowers which are hardy in planting zones three through nine.
You can expect oriental lilies to reach heights between two and eight feet. Be sure to select a growing location with consistently damp, well-draining soil. These flowers also prefer full sunlight.
6. Canna
Cannas are tall, bush-like flowers with colorful blooms and vibrantly colored foliage. These aren’t cold-hardy plants and can only survive in planting zones seven and higher.
Expect these unique and beautiful flowers to reach heights between three and five feet. They need to be grown in a location with nutrient-rich soil that drains adequately. Cannas also enjoy full sun.
7. Helenium
Helenium also goes by the name sneezeweed. These richly colored flowers reach heights between one and three feet.
However, they’re hardy in planting zones three through eight, so if you plant them once they could last for years. Be sure to plant helenium in a location with full sun, rich soil, and well-draining soil that’s consistently damp.
8. Ageratum
Ageratum produces wispy colorful blooms that add color and unique texture to your landscape. If you’re interested in growing this plant, be sure to select a location that can handle a flower that reaches heights up to three feet.

10. Cleome
Cleome produces small clusters of blooms which come together to form large, round blooms. These plants reach heights between two and five feet.

11. Snapdragon
Snapdragons are a colorful, tall flower that’s great for making your home welcoming and adding a pop of color as well. This is a perennial option in planting zones seven through eleven.

12. Sunflowers

Plus, this option is hardy in planting zones three through nine. If you’re interested in growing globe thistle, be sure to select a location with plenty of sunlight to encourage the plant to bloom and avoid becoming leggy.
18. Joe Pye Weed
Joe pye weed is a tall plant that produces tiny, light colored blooms. The flowers form as the small clustered blooms come together. If this bushy plant is for you, be sure to provide ample room as it can reach heights around eight feet tall.
However, once the proper amount of room is provided, the rest of the growing conditions are rather simple as Joe pye weed isn’t a fussy plant. It grows well in full sunlight or partial shade. It can also grow in a variety of soil types. This is a hardy plant in zones four through eight.
19. Monkshood
Monkshood goes by a variety of names, but it’s hard to miss due to its base of green foliage and tall, vertical blooms filled with gorgeous colors. When growing this plant, expect it to reach heights up to three feet. You should also expect it to become around one foot wide.
Plus, the plant needs full to partial sunlight. If it doesn’t receive enough sunlight, the flowers will flop over and lose their confident stance in your landscape. These are hardy plants in zones three through eight.
20. Red Hot Poker
A red hot poker plant gets the name honestly. It has a base of green foliage where long stems emerge. At the end of the stems are cone-shaped blooms filled with vibrant colors such as yellow, red, and orange which resemble a hot poker.
Should you wish to add this unique plant to your garden, ensure you provide a growing space with full sun and well-draining soil. The plant is hardy in zones five through nine and can reach heights around three feet.
21. Dahlia
Dahlias are gorgeous, brightly colored flowers with layered blooms. They remind me of the tissue paper flowers I made in art class as a kid. If you’d love a plant with vibrant and texturized blooms, this could be your flower.
However, be aware that dahlias come in different varieties which range in height from one to six feet. They need a growing location with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. If cared for properly, these flowers should remain hardy in zones eight through ten.
22. Foxglove
Our final flower to discuss is foxglove. This plant grows from a lush base of foliage, produces long stems, and colorful, vertical blooms. Expect these flowers to reach heights up to six feet. From there, you should expect foxglove to remain hardy in planting zones four through nine.
However, you must provide growing conditions which consist of damp, well-draining soil and full sunlight.
