Hello. I am considering replacing a softwood based bark mulch with pumice stone. The mulch seems to breakdown quickly in our climate (the pacific northwest) and I am looking for something more durable. My question is whether there are any issues going from one to the other. Also, should I remove the existing mulch or can i apply the pumice over top? Thanks for your help.

So I have two oak trees encompassed in a landscaping hill that water WAS ( past tense) able to seep into the ground for the root system in the past. This area is about 20 foot wide on a hill by about 45 foot long. I am now installing walls and a deck with pavers in that area and around the two trees. Little water will sock into the ground when completed. I did not have to cut any of the tap roots and only a hand full of very small roots to accomplish this. The trees will have dirt around them a few foot out. I see trees in the streets that have concrete around them. Do I need to worry about these trees getting enough water to survive?
