The Chester M Alter Arboretum is located on the campus of the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. Today includes a “living fossil forest” that features the nearest living relatives of fossilized plants found in the Rocky Mountains. The Arboretum also features a large Water Garden that features many Colorado native waterlilys as well as exotic aquatic plants.

It is recognized as the foremost authority on high-altitude plants in natural and cultivated landscapes. Today, the gardens contain about 2,000 varieties of plants, including over 500 different varieties of wildflowers and alpine plants.

Shambhala Botanic Gardens

The Shambhala Botanic Gardens are young 600 acre botanical gardens, located on the campus of Shambhala Mountain Center, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. The Botanic Gardens are a horticultural environment at about 8,000 feet above sea level. The gardens include four distinct areas, representations of several climatological zones, and many species of native Western American and Rocky Mountain plants and animals.
