There’s nothing like a glass of delicious lemonade in hot weather, but all that sugar can really add calories. Most low calorie lemonade recipes just don’t taste good enough to replace the full sugar version, but this one with freshly squeezed lemon juice avoids the “diet” taste so you can enjoy as much as you want without worrying about your blood sugar or your waistline.
Plus, we could all do with more vitamin C to give our immune system every chance it can get. Something cool and refreshing to drink is a treat we deserve, especially if it has no calories. Well, maybe not zero calories, but practically zero. The juice from one lemon has 11 tiny calories.
I developed this recipe this summer, because I started making myself a fresh lemonade every night as a way to break my nightly wine habit. Every day around 6 p.m., I found myself really craving something special to drink, as a relaxing transition to “home time” after my workday ended.
Enter this homemade no-calorie lemonade recipe that I developed through trial and error, until I got it just right. Follow this simple recipe and you won’t be disappointed. Even my 14 year old son will make this for himself every day, and that sure beats drinking soda, doesn’t it?
The beauty of this recipe is that the fresh squeezed lemons make the “stevia taste” disappear, giving you a taste that’s like real sugar, but without the calories.
No Sugar Lemonade Ingredients and Supplies
- Fresh lemons – you can’t make this with bottled lemon juice, it just doesn’t taste the same
- Ice – I prefer crushed ice if you can get that
- Water (Pro Tip: If you have a Sodastream, carbonated water makes it even better!)
- Organic stevia
- Lemon squeezer – This gets so much more juice than hand squeezing your lemons. That’s important for the taste! OXO makes a great one.
Method for Making Our Low Calorie Lemonade Recipe
To make fresh lemonade follow these steps. This is for a single serving recipe, so if you are making it for more people just multiply. This recipe makes around 14 ounces.
Step 1 – Cut one lemon in half down the middle (and not end to end).
Step 2 – Juice the lemon right into your glass using the juice press. This gets so much more juice out of the lemon.
Step 3 – Stir in one teaspoon of Pyure Organic All-Purpose Stevia Blend until dissolved. I really like this specific brand because it’s natural and it has less after taste than other sweeteners. Once you put in the real lemons, it doesn’t taste diet!
Step 4 – Add 12 ounces of water and stir. We make lots of carbonated water using our Soda Stream. If you add carbonated water it makes this even better, but you don’t have to use fizzy water.
Step 5 – Add crushed ice and stir to combine.
Step 6 – Enjoy

Learn to use your squeezer correctly. The lemon goes cut side down for max juice. Also, freeze the citrus and get lots more juice from them. Yummy!
