Default Winter vegetable or fruit plants

I live in South East Virginia and am new to vegetable growing. I did grow a few vegetables this summer, some did well, others not so good. I have really enjoyed the satisfaction of eating something that I have worked hard at to grown myself. I wanted to continue to grow vegetables and possibly fruit throughout the winter. What are some plants that would be hearty in a container planter that will be outside all season. We don't care much for peas or beans but any other vegetable would be great for us. Any advice would be much appreciated. THANKS!!!

In NW Coastal Oregon, this winter I still have growing Swiss Chard, Celery, Kohlrabi, Carrots, walking onions, Celery par Cel, Cabbage, and Kales.

Usually I would have brussel sprouts also, but they're all eaten already
Yes - it freezes hard here and rains buckets in the winter time.
