Question okra, anyone?

Anybody here who grows okra? What variety is easy to grow? Is it easy to grow from seed? I love okra but I'm clueless when it comes to growing them..

That's easy. Okra is a heat-loving plant that is very tolerant of the cold and best planted after the last danger of frost has passed. Soil should be well-prepared and free from weeds. Plant okra one seed at a time, about 1 foot apart within a row and 18 inches apart across the row. Watch as it starts to flowers and produce fruits.

I heard from an old farmer that when harvesting fruit from the okra plant, one should cut off the okra pod and the leaf just below it. Your okra plant will thrive and continue to bear fruit for the entire growing season. His plant grew so tall he had to use a long pole with a nail in the end to bend the plant over so he could get to the pods! The next season, he used this technique on all the okra plants, and had some well over 10 feet tall, still bearing fruit.

That’s a great technique! Thanks for sharing, cococrab.
