Used compost

Mygarden is relatively small and, when I bought my wife a greenhouse I gave my compost bin away. We now use bagged compost from garden suppliers and have quite a lot of compost we used for growing potatoes and vegetables. In the past I have distributed the used compost on the garden flower beds. Because we are intending to plant 3 large potatoe growing bags and other vaegetables in pots and planters I wondered if, and where, we could use the compost from last year and, if so, what precautions need to be taken to prevent the possibility of disease.
