Default Can I put worms in my piles and not in bins?

The main idea that is being pushed in the forums is worms/vermicomposting are done only in bins.

Can I make a pile in my yard and put worms in there?

Of course you can mistermaster. The idea there is as long as there is food for the worms then you can have it in a bin or a bed.

But when you talk about beds, these are usually fenced in by a height of 6 inches using a panel board or discarded lumber. Then put the beddings inside and the worms.

A roof is mandatory to protect from rains.

Beddings for vermicomposting are applicable only in areas where there are no winters and the weather is generally mild the whole year round.

I tried vermicomposting without a bin.

I had an old cattle shed which wasn't used anymore and I erected 3 cemented hollow block high fence around a 4x10m space and filled it up with cattle dung---not fresh manure.

Then I just let loose 10 lbs of worms and let them do their thing.

I always check the moisture content though and on the guard for ants.

I gather your old cattle shed already has a roof. Quite good huh. You can have different piles in there at different stages of composting. You'll never run out of castings man!
