Default Watering the Lawn

I got a problem with watering my lawn. Sometimes it gets soooo soggy and sometimes it isn't just enough and the grass starts to turn brownish.

anyone out there who can offer "how to's in watering my lawn"?

I water my lawn infrequently and deeply rather than often and lightly. It keeps my lawn healthy and beautiful.

Every lawn needs good watering practices. Try to water as fast as the ground can absorb it. And try to check the kind of soil your lawn is grown. Perhaps your soil is somewhat clay that’s why your lawn seemed to get drown in water?

Try hose-end sprinklers or install an underground automated system.

You have to test the output and consistency of coverage of the sprinkler by placing flat-bottom cups or cans within the area which can be reached by the sprinkler and measure the water over a given time. You may adjust the flow and pattern of your sprinkler so that you will be sure that your lawn is evenly watered.

Do you have a multi-zone irrigation system? If you have a yard with different characteristics (ie; heavy slope in some areas, lots of sand in some parts) then it makes sense to use a programmable watering system. That way, you can give extra water to the parts that need it, and several short bursts of water to areas with runoff problems.

There are also water sensors that may help. They use underground probes to measure when the ground reaches ideal moisture levels.

If you don't want to go the high-tech route, you can also do manual testing of the ground. Half an hour after you water, dig up a plug of earth 6 inches deep. If the ground is moist but not muddy, then you got the watering right. If it's dry, turn the sprinklers back on.

Water your lawn early in the morning, or when the winds are calm and so that there will be enough daylight left to dry the leaves before nightfall.

Let the soil dry partially in between watering. Turn off the sprinkler when you observe that the water is wet enough and has reached the root zone 6 to 8 inches deep with each irrigation. To avoid producing runoff, run the sprinklers in cycles, turning sprinklers on for 10 minutes, turning them off to let the water soak in, then repeating.

Ciao

This one works best for me. I deem it impractical to use the irrigation systems right now.

Thanks

Watering your lawn may depend on the weather, and the season in general. During their active growing season, grasses need more water compared to when they are dormant.

Set automated timers so you don't forget to turn the water off and also to prevent runoff.

Default Watering the Lawn

It is important that we do not use too much water for our lawns. Water the plants only when needed, not by the clock or calendar. We need to use water wisely. The Garden Spot will give you tips on how you can maintain your lawn, yet save water.
