Lightbulb I need to rehabilitate my Lawn

My lawn is all ruined and covered in weeds. It's not a sight to behold right now.

I want to rehabilitate my lawn, maybe put down some new grass.

Question: Do I have to lift old grass up?

Ack, that's really tough. How bad is the grass now? If it's got brown patches, you might want to identify first what could have caused it and work on that. Maybe if you get to the root of that, you wouldn't have to go to the lengths or replanting your grass.

You can test your soil's pH balance to see if its needing any nutrients. Here's some more tips on how you can rehabilitate your lawn: When good lawns go bad - Homes & Gardens - OregonLive.com

If I were in your place, I would use a garden fork to put holes so that you can pull the weeds in there and replace that with some grass seeds and put some soil. Compost would be best.

But if almost all of your lawn has weeds on it then you will have to lift up the old grass and reseed your lawn. Ciao

I would get rid of the weeds first before putting on some new grass because weeds can grow through the new grass.

I have tried getting rid off the weeds with chemicals. You can also opt to use that and also do a good tilling of the ground if necessary.

It really depends on your budget and time. You can remove the weeds manually or you can use a selective weedicide

If you don't have the time and budget to rehabilitate the whole area, then you may sow grass seed on bare areas or lay some pieces of turf.

I'd lay new grass over it but there will be quite a bit of work because you have to dig it in, compost it down and lay over it.

If you don't have the time and patience, then just start from scratch to repair the damage.

I'd seed the lawn if I were you. I guess it's the cheapest method and it's pretty much easier if the soil is good underneath. You've got to do it in stages because this would give you time to improve it bit by bit through the years and not totally strip your lawn to rehabilitate it.

I wouldn't lift all the old grass up. You can kill the weeds with Roundup. But this will probably take a couple of weeks. The when the weeds are all gone, you can now sow grass seeds.

A good lawn needs to be taken care of regularly and doesn't become green overnight. Goodluck

If you think your lawn's hopeless and you have the budget, then call the professionals in. They can replace the entire lawn with new turf/sod, while you sit around and just wait for them to finish and VOILA you get an instant new lawn.

Ciao

how's your lawn doing BB? I got minor problems with my lawn now but I ain't giving up. Had to reseed and re-turf some areas and watch out for moths.

You can mow and then repair your lawn by pulling out the weeds and over sowing. Be generous with watering though and don't forget to feed the grass. Use vermi tea.

You'll get back your lawn in no time. Goodluck
