I’ve learned that a worm tower is used for easier segregation of the finished compost from the undigested scraps. It is built in 3 to 5 layers of trays depending on your worm castings requirement. The concept is that after the worms were already through with digesting the scraps in the bottom tray, the worms will go hungry and seek more food towards the upper trays, sort of migrating. Thus you avoid messy sorting of the unfinished compost.
